Nongthombam Biren Singh along with  ministers took oath today as the BJP’s second government in the north-east after Assam. BJP chief Amit Shah and several union ministers, who were scheduled to attend the oath ceremony, have returned to Delhi, after their flight developed a technical snag. BJP has less number of  seats than the Congress but moved faster than the rival party to secure support to reach get a majority.Will the government survive, wait and watch.

Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated Shri N Biren Singh on taking oath as Chief Minister of Manipur.

“Congratulations to Shri N Biren Singh and his team on taking oath. I am sure this team will work tirelessly towards Manipur’s development,” the Prime Minister said.

Y Joykumar of the National People’s Party (NPP) was sworn-in as the Deputy Chief Minister. Seven Ministers also took oath.

Mr Singh leads the first BJP-led government in the state. He was unanimously elected as the leader of the 21-member BJP Legislature Party on Monday.

The Governor had yesterday invited Mr Singh to form the government after four members of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), met her and declared their support to BJP.

BJP also enlisted the support of NPP, with four seats, and one legislator each of Lok Janshakti Party, Trinamool Congress and Congress.

31 MLAs were needed to form the government in the 60-member Assembly. BJP had bagged 21 seats in the polls, while Congress had won 28.
