Ashley J. Tellis talk ‘Are India-Pakistan Peace Talks Worth a Damn?missed out on Critical Politics & Trade Issues.

Whenever talks are led by Business Chambers there are Positive Discussions and exclude Business, Trade and Energy Security from the focus – Negativity takes over.

Indian focus about a decade ago was Business & Trade with neighboring countries but gradually India manufacturing failed to compete with China and ASEAN – presently India’s engagement in the region are much more Politics & much less Economic.

Ashley J. Tellis missed out completely Politics in India & Pakistan. Both nations had similar FEUDAL system under British Rule, leaders of both countries wanted DEMOCRACY – Had India remained united perhaps it was not possible to Eliminate Feudal system.

India quickly Dismantled ‘Feudal System’ and merged all ‘States in to Union Of India’ and a generation later introduced Land Ceiling and abolished ‘Privy Purses’compensation paid to Pre-partition State Rulers in 1971.

Pakistan couldn’t dismantle its Feudal System – therefore is politically weak.

It is also important mention that Pakistan suffered 2nd Partition in 1971 when it compromised on DEMOCRATIC Principles. West Pakistan didn’t want to be governed by majority region East Pakistan.

Even then Pakistan didn’t see ‘Business Opportunity in Staying United’ Pakistan serving East Asia through now Bangladesh and Bangladesh connecting to West Asia & Central Asia.

Regular Talks and Engagements are essential to give a chance to Peace & Progress to resume for people of the region.

Business and Trade with and through Pakistan could be well over $500b in near future. Energy, Electricity Trade could exceed $200b, Agriculture, Industry & Services offer huge opportunities.

There were ‘Hopes’ when India was considering Gas Pipelines connecting to over 50% of World’s Oil & Gas Reserves in regions accessible through Pakistan.

Feudal Lords drive politics in Pakistan and few Corporate drive Indian politics and they don’t have Common Interests so talk of peace & development never progress.

The day Greater Common Interests of People of the Region Prevails in driving politics >

Ø     Locks on Borders in the region shall open for Peace and Economic Prosperity

Ø     SAARC, Industry & Commerce Chambers To Keep Pushing for Trade & Industry Interests

Ø     Strengthening DEMOCRACY in the entire region is essential for Peace & Prosperity of people of the region.
