Pune, October 8, 2016: Rajesh Wadhawan Group and Hrithik Roshan co-owned FC Pune City registered their first win the 2016 Indian Super League as they pipped FC Goa by 2-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Goa on Saturday.

The visitors brought in their marquee player Mohamed Sissoko to lead the side in the game. The game began on level terms but the home team made the first move in the sixth minute. A Jofre Mateu and Mandar Rao Desai link up earned FC Goa a free-kick at the edge of the box. The kick by Rafael Coelho took a deflection off the visitors’ defensive wall and was about to find the back of the net until an alert Gouramangi Singh cleared it.

FC Pune City took time to get on with their plans. Antonio Habas’ boys soon started passing the ball with confidence. Jonatan Lucca, who was Hero of the match, sent a powerful kick that was tipped to post by Goa custodian Kattimani. Izumi Arata found himself in the right place at the right time to tap in the rebound from the goal post into the goal in 25th minute.

Home team wasn’t willing to go down. Eight minutes later, a slip up from FC Pune City defender Gouramangi Singh gave Goa the equalizer. Gouramangi lost his footing vying for the ball. He slipped in the process where Rafael was more than happy to pounce on the mistake to level the game.

As the second-half started, FC Goa coach Zico got Romeo Fernandes for Fulganco Cardozo that effectively showed his side’s attacking intent. But the first real chance of another goal in the match came when FC Pune City’s Anibal Zurdo manufactured a magic moment with a dummy that got Lucio and Kattimani to commit. But Anibal’s shot lacked power and it was cleared by Raju Gaikwad.

While Zico looked to go home with a point from the match visitors weren’t looking for anything less than a win. In 69thminute, Momar N’Doye was brought in for Tato. The 24-year old Senengalese striker was waiting for his chance. Just when the clock struck 90 minutes, Lucca sent a through-ball for N’Doye to beat FC Goa skipper Lucio and place the ball in left top corner as goalkeeper Kattimani was reduced to a mere spectator.

FC Pune City now return to their fortress, to take on the Northeast United Football Club on the 12th October, 2016.
