Government of Rajasthan, UN Women sign MoU to strengthen initiatives for gender equality, women’s empowerment

Jaipur, Rajasthan – The Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Rajasthan and UN Women, the United Nations organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to accelerate the achievement of gender equality in the State.

UN Women will support the state government in ensuring the inclusion of gender concerns and priorities in planning and budgeting; strengthening the implementation of policies and legislation related to elimination of violence against women; ensuring greater political participation and leadership in governance; and enhancing women’s access to opportunities and resources for economic empowerment, such as rural livelihood programmes.

In the longer term, the collaboration will support the state in meeting its commitments under the UN Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination against Women, the Beijing Platform for Action and the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Rajasthan’s impressive strides with regard to gender indicators and its success in addressing violence against women – for example, through the Aparajita one-stop crisis centers – demonstrate the high priority that the government places on the inclusion and advancement of women. UN Women is delighted to be able to support the state government in expanding these initiatives and creating more opportunities for women in governance and in the economy”, said Dr. Rebecca Reichmann Tavares, Representative, UN Women Multi Country Office for India, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
