I am pleased to inform you that FICCI and DIPP, Govt. of India are organising a seminar on “Managing Copyright in Publishing: The Need for Awareness and Outreach” on March 31, 2016, at FICCI, Federation House, Tansen Marg, New Delhi. Mr. Francis Gurry, Director General, WIPO, has kindly consented to deliver the Keynote Address during the Inaugural Session of this prog.  Mr. Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India will deliver Special Address during the prog.
The book publishing sector has proved to be indispensable to education, cultural identity, diversity and knowledge of the country. The sector continues to be a key driver of growth and intellectual property. With the transition to digital devices, there is a greater need to leverage IP to generate new revenue streams for publishers. Counterfeit and piracy are global problems that affect a number of sectors. Their effects are the most distressing in the book publishing sector, as this sector is directly connected with intellectual property and creative industries. There is a need to heighten copyright protection in publishing as it will encourage innovation and development of knowledge-based industries in the country.
Keeping in view the importance of managing copyright in the age of digital information sharing, the seminar will bring publishers, copyright holders, legal experts and policymakers to discuss the issues pertaining to piracy and counterfeit in publishing.
