Goa polls with fractured verdict, both the BJP and the Congress legislature parties are meeting in Panaji today to decide their respective leaders and work out strategies to form government in the state.
The political equation now entirely hinges on the support of the two smaller parties Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party(MGP), Goa Forward and independents. BJP has decided to appeal the Party president Amit Shah to send Mr Manohar Parrikar back as the leader of the legislative party.
The party has also appealed to non-Congress winning candidates and their parties to support BJP for political stability in the State. It is learnt that MGP has extended a conditional support to the BJP.
Meanwhile in a press conference, Congress has criticised BJP’s attempt to form the government. AIR correspondent reports that a short time ago BJP MLAs have demanded Parrikar’s return to legislative assembly.
Newly elected MLA from Calangute Maichail Lobo said the party will ask for sending Manohar Parrikar to Goa. Congress spokesperson Girish Chodankar earlier in a press conference said his party is reaching out to the smaller parties and independents.
These are the winning candidates who have defeated BJP in the polls, he said. He also said that Congress will fulfill its constituitional responsibility as the single largest party in Goa Assembly.
It remains to be seen as to which party finally musters the support of remaining winning candidates.
The Congress has won 17 seats in the 40-member assembly and BJP 13. MGP has won 3 seats, others 4 and Independents 3.
